Three experts from different fields explore convergence of technologies and where the cutting edge and future of AR and virtual-reality can go. Crossing Disciplines, The cutting edge and potential of VR/AR. This panel explores how we are adapting to the technological change that we create. Every time a new generation of communications technology or media platform is developed, our culture responds. Advances in AR, combined with wearables and true ubiquity, will further cause our human experience of our world to change. Contextual locative data delivered to us is already enriching our day-to-day lives, and the jump to delivering this via immersive AR will give us a deeper understanding of places, and people, if we care to access our data in this way. However, the range of how humans will adopt these technologies—or if they will—remains unknown. Various ethical and legal boundaries are shaping the future envisioned by technologists, and as such, the imagination of what AR can be, and how it is best deployed, continues to be a source of debate. This panel explores the relationship between humans and AR, and between governance and technological visions, with experts in the social impact of automation, imaging, healthcare, and integration.
