Bio
Tom Wesselman is the Senior Director, Software Group at Plantronics. His focus is connecting the capabilities of Plantronics products to the world around them. This starts with defining and building the data and services provided by Plantronics’ wearable technology, and then by working with partners and developers to integrate those capabilities into the applications people use. Prior to Plantronics, Wesselman held senior engineering roles at Cisco, where he led a variety of UC engineering programs including the development of the company’s first UC client.

  • Balancing Human Senses: The Key to Natural, Intuitive AR?
    11:30 AM - 11:45 AM Jun 1
All around us sensors, beacons, and other 'things' are reaching out to connect and exchange information which will ultimately culminate in the formation of ‘sensing’ environments. And because the augmentation of reality will take many forms, it’s imperative that we integrate vision, touch, hearing, and speech into these new sensing environments to create a truly natural, human experience. To do this, we’ll need to think beyond individual devices and consider how we can orchestrate the user experience across all of these devices. Some devices will be things we carry or wear, more will be a part of the world around us, and all will be connected. When we connected computers and mobile phones to the Internet it completely transformed how we use those devices. Given the explosion of devices currently coming online and ongoing efforts to ensure they can communicate, there’s little doubt we’re heading for a paradigm shift that will trigger all new, and unexpected, use cases. In this session, Tom Wesselman who leads the software group at Plantronics, will offer insights on this impending shift, with particular focus on how to ensure experiences remain as realistic and natural as possible.
