Todays video conferencing still lacks on a very important aspect of human
interaction: the physical 3D presence of communication partners.
Unfortunately, we are not able to transmit matter from one point to another
via the internet yet. Instead technologies such as 3D capture, real-time
reconstruction, high-bandwidth internet across the globe and Mixed Reality
devices such as HoloLens bring us closer to the realisation of 3D virtual
tele-presence. That is why it’s the perfect time to talk about the
opportunity to implement computer-generated shared environments, that let
locally separated people interact as if they were in the same room. In this
presentation, Viscopic’s Head of Technology, Felix Meissgeier, will address
the current achievements in the area of 3D tele-immersion. After an
introduction into current approaches, the potential of this new way of
communication will be discussed in terms of use-cases and added value for
business. Additionally he will present the experiences and challenges of
Viscopic Research in developing holographic teleportation prototypes.
