Performing operations underwater are fraught with risk and tend to be expensive. Virtual and Augmented Reality offer a unique platform to help ensure projects are done right the first time. Booz Allen has developed a capability, OceanLens, that helps workers "see" under water. Fusing public bathymentric, topographic, and nautical data sources, we created a virtual world based on the contours of the ocean floor. We then layer client data on top of this world to help planner make more informed decisions. This mapping offers a global view to help submariners plan activities to localized views to deep water structures like oil rigs. Inspired by the events of Deepwater Horizon, OceanLens hopes to use Virtual Reality to ensure we never are working blind underwater.
