The presentation will demonstrate methods for industrial application of augmented reality in intralogistics using the examples of picking, packing and palletizing of goods. Common logistical processes are based on paper instructions, computer installations or handheld devices to guide workers according to their tasks. Augmented reality replaces these technologies and gives the worker more possibilities of interaction and deeper integration into the process, which leads to the optimization of processes. Key enabler for the intended improvement is the dynamic and contextual information presentation induced by virtual representations of goods to be handled and dynamic information. As a result the worker is offered the actual data for each process step just in time and place. Virtual objects e.g. in the shape of packages are placed in the view field to show the adequate positions to place the goods. Virtual hints like arrows give directions for action and guide the worker throughout the processes. The results are faster processing times of manual work – hence the overall throughput will increase. These effects were measured and compared to common processes in a case study. The presentation will depict how these results can be achieved in real world scenarios. Video footage is being presented to illustrate assisting technologies based on augmented reality and consequently show how future work in industrial environments will massively benefit from the application of AR.
